The Birds of Prey race

The Birds of Prey in Beaver Creek is the only men's race of the season in the US and one of the world’s premier ski events. It is a tough and spectacular course and its jumps adhere to the birds of prey theme: Peregrine, Screech Owl, Goshawk, Golden Eagle, Harrier, and the concluding Red Tail.

The course was designed by 1972 Olympic champion Bernhard Russi and developed for the 1999 World Championships. In its history, the Birds of Prey was dominated by Austrians, led by the legendary Hermann Maier that won three consecutive downhills: the 1999 world title, followed by World Cup victories in each of the next two seasons.

A glorious moment for the U.S. Ski team happened in December 2004 when Bode Miller and Daron Rahlves won gold and silver medals in the World Cup downhill race.

Will the US Ski Team's athletes be able to do the same this year? We hope so!
